In the salon with…Steven Goldsworthy
Schwarzkopf's professional ambassador Steven Goldsworthy spills the beans on his favourite celebrity style and answers your questions.
handbag.com recently caught up with Schwarzkopf's professional ambassador and award-winning celebrity hair stylist, Steven Goldsworthy. Steven told us all about his favourite celebrity hairstyle of the moment, how to achieve it and what his must-have product is. Plus, he answers three of your recent hair care questions and gives his expert product recommendations. Celebrity hairstyle of the moment: Kimberley Wyatt from The Pussy Cat Dolls.
Stephen says, "Kimberley proves that short hair can be versatile. Her style seems to switch on a weekly basis. Here is how to get her new sleek bob at home".
Step one:
Apply a smoothing product like the Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Magic, £10.45, to damp hair running from root to tip. Blow-dry using a cushion based brush to reduce static and get the hair as smooth as possible. Brushing the hair backwards and forwards against the direction you want it to fall helps give the style extra body from the root.
Step two:
Straightening irons will help get this style poker straight. Try to get as close to the root as you can. Hot irons with small plates will work better on hair this short and help to create the sharp textured ends that carry this style off.
Step three:
Once finished, apply the Schwarzkopf Professional BC Bonacure Colour Save Coloured Ends, £10.95, which is a lightweight leave-in balm which helps to prevent colour-treated hair from breaking. It also seals tips so you'll have no flyaway pieces.
Stephen Goldsworthy answers your questions:
Dear Steven
I wash my hair everyday but it's such a chore. Not only is it now dry and over-styled, it's also so time consuming. Any tips or style advice for those that don't want to wash their hair daily?
Thanks Susie.
I always find hair which isn't freshly washed is much better to play with, Susie. You can be far more creative with hair that isn't squeaky clean - it'll go up much better for starters. Hair dressing is back so work on putting your hair up into a ponytail or plait which are both huge trends at the moment. The fluffiness you get with freshly washed hair will be absent so your hair will look much neater. A day old shampoo holds a curl much better than freshly washed locks.
Hi Steven
I have quite thin hair and a sensitive scalp. Is it bad to brush my hair constantly and when it's knotty and wet? I feel like it makes my hair thinner and it can leave my scalp red. How can I improve this and help my sensitive scalp? Should I stop blow-drying on a high heat? Thank you, Karen
Drying your hair on a low setting will help and also try leaving your hair to dry naturally occasionally. When you apply conditioner, comb through using a wide toothed comb before rinsing to eliminate knots after towel drying. You really need to invest in products formulated for your sensitive scalp. Schwarzkopf's BC Sensitive Soothe range is dermatologically tested and specifically designed to reduce irritation by up to 50%. The range contains caring ingredients to boost your scalp's natural defences while repairing damage to your hair. Available in the range are the Sensitive Soothe Shampoo and Conditioner, Scalp Serum and Styling Serum which I recommend trying.
Hi Steven
Help! It's horribly embarrassing to admit but I still get dandruff. What is it and why can't I get rid of it? Nothing seems to work!
Please help, much appreciated Tyra
The most common type of dandruff is caused by our skin shedding and getting replaced, just like it does on the rest of our body. White flaky bits in your hair are just your scalp naturally exfoliating and although it can be a bit itchy, it's rarely sore and red. Most of us will experience this at some point and it can be banished with a dandruff shampoo. The Schwarzkopf BC Hair & Scalp range contains a Deep Cleansing Shampoo which deeply cleanses your hair and scalp, a Dandruff Control Shampoo which will remove flakes and prevent dandruff, a Deep Cleansing Pre-Shampoo to exfoliate and tone your scalp and a Dandruff Control Fluid which works in unison with the products to prevent the spread of dandruff. These products will help you treat and prevent further dandruff.
Steven's hero product:
"Schwarzkopf Professional BC Repair Rescue Sealed Ends, £10.95, is a great cure-all in an instant product. Whether it's static pieces, dry strands or split ends, this is brilliant at smoothing the ends of your hair and gives incredible shine and condition. Simply work into the palms of your hands and run over your hair's surface to seal the guilty area."
